He practised what he preached by living a simple life of sacrificed and deprivation to the extent that he lived for the poor and indeed lived among them.
That proclamation that the SHEPHERD MUST SMELL LIKE THE SHEEP is the aspect of his life that we admire most.
For the above to happen, the Shepherd must do everything with the sheep including sleeping in the same with them.
